Few days had passed. One night before sleep, Joseph and Fidel pray together like usual.

He likes to pray with Echo Prayers - Joseph pray a short phrase and Fidel will repeat. Recently he does not just repeat, but finish the sentence or say whatever he wants to say.

Named His Family

"Ana" This is how Joseph calls me every time.
One day I heard a little, cute and innocent voice call my name. "Ana..." Fidel called me! Children learn things very fast, especially at this early age.
When Fidel is with his daddy, Fidel likes to tease and keep calling my name, "Ana..., Ana..., Ana...."
OK... this is how he knows my name.

I teach him his daddy's name. He said "Yofes..." He still can not call his daddy's name clearly. Many times he forgets the name. Daddy's name quite hard to pronounce and remember.

Just one month before I deliver my second son, we finally decide his name. We told Fidel his brother name. I pointed my tummy and said, "弟弟的名字是(Brother's name is) Habel".

Surprisingly when I asked again what his brother's name, he can mention it clearly. At that moment he couldn't even mention his own name clearly yet.

After trained him few times about our name. Joseph had this conversation with him:
Joseph : "弟弟叫什么名(what is your brother's name)?"
Fidel : "Habel Lim"
Joseph : "你叫什么名(what is your name)?"
Fidel : "Fidel Lim"
Joseph : "妈妈呢(how about mother)?"
Fidel : "Ana..."
Joseph : "Daddy 叫什么名(what is daddy's name)?"
Fidel : "Papa Lim!"

Langsat and Jelly

I still remember Fidel's first word when he learned to communicate with us, which giggled us was "Up". He used the wrong word instead of "Down". I think he was about 20month-old that time.
Joseph and Fidel were playing together in the room. He wanted to ask his dad to come down from the bed. He pointed his finger and moved toward down and say, "Daddy up, daddy up".

Few months ago was Langsat/Duku (fruit) season. Joseph and Fidel like it so much. They ate together and Joseph always reminds him, "Be careful, got seed inside". After eat the flesh, he will spit the seed out.

Last Sunday at church, teacher gave him a small pack of jelly with nata de coco inside. First bite, he loves it. Then I helped press the whole jelly into his mouth. Soon he spit the whole jelly out.
I asked him, "Why?"
He frowned and said, "Got seed".

I felt happy that my mom could come to Penang one day before I delivered. She stayed here to visit and help me during my confinement period.

She did a lot of chores for me as we know that during confinement time I should avoid touch the water and rest as much as I can. So everything about water my mom would handle it, including bath Fidel and the baby.

I’m so grateful that she can take care of Fidel too, cooks meal and entertain him as well. Joseph and I thank her so much. We couldn’t imagine if my mom didn’t come and help me. Maybe our house would be like a broken ship.

Time flies, today already reach three weeks. My mom will fly back to Jakarta. Pity my dad too. He must feel lonely when mom is not around.

“Mom, thank you so much for your help. Although you stay for three weeks, but it means so much for us. We're gonna miss you.”

Our Second Baby, Habel Lim

Finally on 01 October 2010, at 1:19pm, our second baby was born through C-sect birth.
We named him Habel (Indonesian version of Abel). In Mandarin is 林实信。
Our wish is he growing up to be like Abel, offering God his best gifts and even his own life, out of his genuine faith.
Thank you all for your prayers and best wishes to us.

Stubborn Baby

I know that it's been very very long time I didn't update my blog. I think it because of my pregnancy. Since I'm pregnant, I don't feel to write though many stories to tell. I have no strength to wake up anymore after accompany Fidel sleeps at night (usually I do update my blog at night).

At this moment I decided to force myself to write something on my blog before I go for deliver tomorrow. Actually our second baby due date was 27 Sept 2010, but it overdue again like the first one.

Yesterday, 28 Sept 2010 I went for check up and still not dilated. Don't you think he is a stubborn baby?? Hahaha... Or he feels too cozy inside "his little world". After discussed with doctor, we decided to have C-Sect delivery on 1 Oct 2010.

Hope I will be able to update my blog again after deliver.

Wanted to update to all my friends on 22 April 2010, but most of the time(night) I had already no mood to post and no strength to sit in front the computer. It made me late 3weeks to post this.

Today is the day that I’ve been waiting for. We’ll go to see our baby… We’re so excited as we would know the gender of the baby by 7pm. My pregnancy is 16weeks now.
It was a busy day again for me. Morning had a Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). At noon wanted to have lunch with my friend-Chiali, but last minute I need to cancel it because I had my dad’s order of business. I reached home with Fidel sleeping in a car. Fidel always fall asleep in the car after BSF-doing some activity from children programme (Quite time, pray, Bible storytelling, singing hymn, have some snacks and play), provided by BSF.

I had my lunch while he sleeps. Thank God that I could enjoy my lunch while I’m very very hungry without being “disturb”. After did some chores, he woke up and I fed him lunch.

Three O’clock, I took Fidel to Bukit Mertajam to do dad’s business, Joseph was with me as he took half day leave—come back from dentist, he was not feeling well too.

Well… Let me cut my long….story. We reached home at 5pm. Rest for a while, and fed Fidel dinner, while Joseph still lying sick on the bed. I think he is too sick. I managed to get Chiali to accompany me.

Tadaa…! We reach the clinic. While waiting for my turn, Chiali and I were guessing what is the gender of my baby. Boy or girl is OK for me. But if ask me to choose…. I would prefer girl. I thought I can take “a breath” in the future as people say girl is more quite, not so active like a boy. I could experience new “model” of God’s creation, dress her like a doll. 

“Liana!” the nurse called my name. Oh, oh! It’s my turn now.

After “bli bli bla bla” with the Dr. I lied on the bed and Dr was ready to do the scanning.

Oh…. I’m so happy to see you again, my baby, I spoke heart to heart to the baby as I saw him/her in the screen. I looked carefully and keep searching whether there is “a spout” coming out. Since Dr started does the scanning, telling me this is the spine, kidney, heart, brain, legs, hands, etc. until few minutes… the baby was not in a good position. He was stuck at one corner for so long. The position was very very bad. Finally, when Dr was about to “give up”, the baby finally could come out from the corner, as if he/she heard our conversation. While he/she stretch the body, Dr captured the photo. Before he captured the photo, he tried to search the gender and told me that he think it’s a male.

“Huh….??” My response was like asking the Dr to repeat again what he just said.
“I think is a son. 85% is a boy…” said the Dr.

O… ow… What immediately come to my mind was “How if the second one is active just like his brother? How to cope with them?”

However… male or female is OK for me. I just felt a bit “shocked” because few of my friends say, “It could be a girl” as they said that I look prettier since pregnant. Hahaha 

I went back home and told Joseph that it’s a boy. He said, “Good lah… so we have chance to have the third one.”
“What…?? How if the third one is boy again or TWIN BOYS??”

Anyhow… whatever the gender is…, “We welcome you, babe”. We believe God has His beautiful plan in each creation.

Sleepless Night

It has been a long long time that I didn’t up date my blog. I think almost two months. Don’t you think it’s a long… time?

Now, I’m here…. But not to update my blog.

I had a sleepless night. I’ve been laying down on the bed for 3hours but I still couldn’t have a deep sleep. I had a long day today. I feel very exhausted and tired… Started my morning with Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), went back home for a nap, had tea time with few friends outside, and brought Fidel for swimming. Fidel and I reached home at 8.10 pm, but our little one doesn’t want to go home, he stopped his step at our neighbor house and went in there and played for half hour with the children in that house (I will write more story about Fidel and the neighbor in my next posting). I left him there and had my dinner at home with Joseph.

Lay down on the bed for 3hours, made my stomach hungry. Actually I don’t want to bother it, but I feel more uncomfortable – starving on the bed.

Well, I just finished my yummy instant noodle while I write this post. I’m full and feel very satisfied. Will go back to sleep now.

Hope that I can have good rest…

Valentine Surprise

It’s quite late to post about Valentine and Chinese New Year now, but let me keep this “Sweet Moment” in my blog. So that when I get old, I still can remember what happened on that day.

13 February 2010, it was Chinese New Year eve, we had our family dinner attended by my parents-in-law, older sister-in-law family and our family at Korea Palace. It was a very nice restaurant, although a bit expensive. The food was all over the table, many side dishes – Korean typical foods were served as a complimentary. Those dishes were delicious and very tasty. Love it.
Just before we started our dinner, Joseph announced that I’m pregnant. Everybody was surprise and very happy for us. Then… we start our dinner.

While we were eating, there’s a man came and calling my name,
“Miss Liana…??”
“Yes…?” Why got people calling my name? When I turn my head around, I saw beautiful flowers. I thought this restaurant was so kind, give the ladies flowers as the next day is Valentine day, while he holds 2 bunch of flowers and calling my sister-in-law’s name too.
I accepted the flowers and saw the sender name was Joseph. Oh! Not from the restaurant?
It was from my hubby…. It’s a valentine gift! Ow… so sweet. Thank you darling. Hug and kiss for my hubby.
The other bunch was for my sister-in-law, Connie. It’s from her husband, Jonathan.
I was thinking how these men ordered the flowers. Yet, Sister Connie told me that Joseph asked her help to order flower for me. And the flower from her husband was ordered by him 2 weeks before and asked to be sent to the restaurant too. What so unique was each of them ordered to the same florist at different time. They are a sweet couple.

I could say that this valentine was the most memorable one. Not because I got the flower from my hubby, though I could say so, because usually we just went out for V dinner, but this year after 4years being married I got V flowers. Of course I don’t expect to be given flower every time. It is just a symbol to show our love, but the most important is we show our love, care and attention to our family every day. I could say it’s the most memorable valentine, because we celebrate 2big occasions (valentine and CNY) together with more families. Beside Fidel, soon we’ll have extra one more blessing in our family. And I always thank God for my very best partner in my life. Together forever ‘till death do us apart.

I Must Wean Him (Day 2)

This morning I was very excited to give Fidel try new formula milk.

“Fidel…. Mommy croot croot croot nen-nen to this cup for you to drink, OK?” I made the squeezing sound and acted as if I squeeze the breast milk out to his cup. After repeat 2-3times to ensure him, he nodded his head and smile…

Yes! He understand what I’m saying. I made 3oz and passed it to him.

“Nen-nen…. Yeah! It’s very nice!”

He took it and had a sip. He continues sip and sip, within 2 minutes he finished the milk.

“Mo mo...” Fidel tried to say ‘no more’. He whined to have more milk.
“More? More nen-nen? Really?” I asked him few times and he nodded his head again and again.

Wow! Is it so delicious? He wants more! I was so excited and made another 3oz. He drank it but not finish.

Oh, it’s OK. At least my son had drink 4-5oz this morning. Success! Success!

Come to afternoon nap, I can see that he’s tired. I just prayed that we would have a smooth sleeping process.
“Come here Fidel, sleep next to mommy, but no nen-nen” I covered my whole body with blanket. And he started to whine, try to take the blanket away, and he cried. I tried to persuade him, but he didn’t want to bother me. After 20minutes crying, I pulled him and place him on my tummy facing me. He stopped crying and slept on me. After fall asleep, I put him down on the bed, he cried again. OK… OK… then I let him sleep on me for the whole afternoon nap, about one hour. Thank you Lord, he sleeps without breastmilk.

At night, before we go to sleep, I asked Fidel to pray together and he did do his hands like praying, “… Lord, we pray that Fidel can sleep well without nen-nen. … …”

After switch off the light, Fidel did trying to find his nen-nen and whined. I said to him, “I’ve told you that I have no nen-nen anymore. Dry…(don’t know whether he understands the word ‘dry’), no more… finish. Just now you drank nen-nen in the bottle. You must sleep now.”

Amazing! Thank you Lord Jesus. You really listen to our prayers. He just came up to my tummy and slept there hugging me. I place him down on the bed after few minutes.

Prayer is so powerful! Just need two days to wean him. God, you are so good to us!

I Must Wean Him (Day 1)

Yesterday, 11 February 2010, Joseph accompanied me to a clinic, to see the obstetricians. I brought Fidel along too.

“Can you see the heart beat, Liana….”
“Yes…” I smiled when I saw the tiny creature keep blinking at the computer screen in front of me. As if it was trying to say that she is there.
“It’s still very young. It’s only 6weeks and 2days. Mmm… You are not so lucky, Liana…”
“??....”
“It’s not a twin…”

At the above are few of the conversation between the doctor and us.
Yes, you are right! I’m pregnant the second child.
Is it too soon? I guess everyone will say so. But we did plan for it. We want to give Fidel a companion without any big gaps. Fidel will be 25month-old when his coming sibling born.

Since I knew that I’m pregnant from the pregnancy test that I bought last week, I started to browse and search in the internet about “breastfeeding during pregnancy”. I found few articles and they say not necessarily have to wean the baby or toddler. So, I confidently continue breastfeed Fidel.

I asked Dr whether I can continue breastfeed Fidel as he doesn’t drink formula milk. Dr said better wean him slowly. The reason he asked me to stop is because breastfeeding can cause the contraction at the uterus. If it contracts, there is possibility I might lost the fetus.

“Ow Fidel… no more nen-nen(milk) for you” Joseph said to him

We decided to wean him immediately as we don’t want to take any risk. We know it looks impossible to wean him suddenly. So far, he doesn’t drink any formula milk (FM). I bought FM but he refuse to drink, so I just put 1small scoop in his cereal every morning.

After back home that afternoon, Fidel was sleepy. Usually I will just offer him breast milk, and he will just fall asleep after latch for 10-15minutes. Very sorry for Fidel, that afternoon I’ve decided not to give him anymore. He cried and cried. Stop for a while and continue crying again, stop and cry again till one hour. After an hour, he stopped crying and went off from his bed, took his toys and points his finger to the door. He wants to go out from the room “HUH?? Don’t you feel sleepy?” I was stunned, yet let him go out.

We went to Tesco that evening to buy FM for him. A sales promoter introduced me Enfagrow, instead of Enfapro – the one he refuse to drink. I bought Vanilla flavor. We just shopped for awhile and Fidel fall asleep in his stroller. He was already very very tired, after cried an hour in the afternoon, and didn’t take his nap.
We reached home and I put him in his bed, and he didn’t awake. Oh… Thank God that I don’t need to struggle with him.

If everybody busy of tidying and cleaning their house because of Chinese New Year is coming, my 16months Fidel does too.

Recently he is very interested in broom and mop. I always say “No no”, but he doesn’t bother me. He takes the broom or dry mop and goes round the house – from living room, our room till kitchen. The funny thing is he does it seriously, he squads down to sweep the area under sofa or chairs. I giggle when I see him doing it, “He is copying his clean and hardworking mother in doing housekeeping”. Hahaha….

Fidels' Studio Photos

Dec 2009, I bought Mamy Poko Diapers and get one free photo shoot to join the Mamy Poko photo contest.

Without thinking of winning the contest because I’m sure out there must be a lot of children who can do better expression in front of the camera, I took Fidel one morning to the selected photo studio.

The photographer, we called him “uncle” tried to be nice to Fidel. Ask me to take Fidel around the photo studio, to get him familiar so he won’t afraid or cry later. OK… it seems like Fidel is not afraid at all. Then the photo session started.

“Hello, hello… Boy… look at here… Baby, baby…. Xiao xiao(means smile), hello….”, said uncle.

Fidel stared at the uncle. He wondered what was happening there. Gave him many toys to hold, and he said, “Mama… mama…” (try to give the things to me).

“Look at uncle, Fidel… Xiao xiao…” I said this sentence many times. Did many funny actions, gave him biscuits, but still cannot make him smile. Sigh…. The whole session made me tired. No even one photo with smiling face. No chance to win…

Uncle offered me a photo package. As Fidel was in the studio photo and captured by a pro, so why don’t we choose some of his photos. We ordered few simple calendars with his photo to give to Ah Ma-Ah Kong and Po Po-Gung Gung(both grandparents) in Jakarta too. Usually they must be happy to see their grandchild photo. It’s a good idea gift for New Year.

Last Prize in 2009

It’s a little bit late to post this. Actually I have many stories to tell, but I have no time to write. When I have time… I’m lazy to write. Hahaha…

These are the 3rd prize that Fidel won last August 2009-Laundry Cleanser Concentrate and Liquid Cleanser. Yippee… I can save more money again.Last Dec 2009, I received email from Mother and Baby Magazine, which said “Congratulation… … …”. You know the meaning, right?

Sept 2009, I was thinking to buy a different magazine—“Mami&baby” instead of “Parenthood”. Just to try my luck. Usually if we are selected as a winner, it will show up at two months later edition. Wait till Nov 2009… didn’t receive any email. So I just forget about it.

Middle of Dec 2009, I was excited to see a letter in my inbox.

That was the story how Fidel won the prize for the 4th time. Thanks to Brother Vincent for always helps us in redeeming all the gifts. Btw, Fidel was one of the Candid photo winners. The photo was taken when he was 11.5months, tasted ice cream for the first time. It’s very cold till he wrinkled his face.

Long… long time ago, when we were just a friend, Joseph showed me bible verses from Proverbs 31:10-31. He told me that I should learn to become a woman like what is written there.

I know that those verses are not easy to be practiced and applied. I need Lord to strengthen and mould me to be a good wife, mother and woman. Until now, I still can fail sometimes, but thank God that I have a wonderful husband to support me physically and spiritually.

Jakarta Boy

Joseph always calls Fidel, “Jakarta Boy” every time Fidel goes to Jakarta. Actually we’ve been here for almost 3weeks. J accompanied us here for 4-5days and he went back for work. Our last trip to Jakarta was ten months ago, F was only 4.5month-old. Now he is 14months.

At first we quite worry as the journey takes 2hours20minutes and as we know F can’t sit still too long, he likes to be free, crawl and play. We manage to make F sleeps on the plane. What I need to do is wake him up earlier and keep him active for 2-2.5hours. Finally, just before boarding, F fell asleep. Yeah! We made it.

He slept for 1hour. When he woke up, he wondered where he was. He hurried walked to the window and looked out, and he said,”Oh…oh….” I guessed he was amazed to see the cloud and the blue sky. We still have about 1hour in the plane. We just let him sit, stand, play and had his lunch too. The seats were not full, Fidel paid RM30 for Penang-Jakarta flight and he had his own seat.

We reached Jakarta about 12noon. Yeah! “Here we are again!” My sister-Belley and my grandma were waiting for us. Because we tired and the weather was about to rain, so I prefer to home and had lunch at lunch as my mom had prepared food for us.
We reached home and Fidel starts his inspection. He crawled to every corner in the house. Our house in Jakarta is not childproof. I was very busy in following Fidel and say ”No-no” all the time.

"He is humming"

Started few months ago, I let Fidel listens songs at home or in the car. I noticed that he starts singing, more to humming when he watches the children video program (“I Can Speak Mandarin") – they play, learn, read rhymes, and sing songs together. He enjoy the story so much and sometimes he laughs and claps hands when he hears the rhymes.

One day I was in the kitchen while he was watching the video, and I heard him humming to the songs though his tune was not right yet. He surprised me.

“Fidel, you are singing…. “ He looked at me and gave a smile and continue watching.

While three of us went out to church, hymn songs were played in the car, he enjoy the music and humming again.

“Listen, he is humming” I told my hubby. He looked at Fidel and smiled.

If he likes the music, he’ll move his body. You will see him shake his tummy up and down. And claps his hands when the music stop.

Re-train Fidel

Three weeks ago when Fidel was sick and didn’t want to eat for 4-5days, we decided to let him latch on me while he sleeps at night. Every time he woke up, I’ll offer him. Until he recovered, it became a habit. He wakes up quite many times in the middle of the night and will get back to sleep only when he gets the milk. When he wakes up, I would pretend sleeping and won’t bother him. Guess what he did… He did “self service” by pull-up my shirt and act like the milk is belong to him, and he would suck till sleep.

I told Joseph that we can’t let him go back to his bad habit—wakes up many times and need to latch-on only get back to sleep. So, we decided to let him sleep with Joseph.

Then the training starts….

Fidel woke up at night and knew that the person slept next to him was not me, he cried. He cried for about 40minutes and fell asleep.

In the morning 05.30, I heard from the other room (when its training period, I sleep at other room) that he cried. I did send SMS to Joseph ask whether need me to go to the room. He said wait till 6 O’clock only give him milk. After cried, he gets back to sleep again.

When breakfast time, Joseph told me what happened at 5.30 - Fidel cried. Fidel woke up and pull-up Joseph’s shirt. He couldn’t find the breast, so he tried to touch and it was FLAT! (Hahahaha….) Suddenly Fidel cried so loud, because he knows there was no milk for him.

After few days sleeps with daddy, few times wakes up at night, he cries for few minutes. Slowly he knows that no more milk at night.

We are very happy that he doesn’t wake up anymore at night. If he wakes up, we don’t bother him, he will make noise (complaining) but he will go back to sleep again.

Finally, after one week, all of us can sleep through the night.

House On Fire!

Last Sunday, 25thOctober2009, two days ago, there was a fire at our 5th floor apartment.

That day almost 1 o’clock in the morning, I was in the toilet, I heard a man shouting in Hockian dialect and I don’t really understand what that man shouted about. I thought people get drunk, quarreled and fought, which sometimes happen at our apartment. I heard a breaking glass sound too. I thought it must be a serious fighting!

I went out from the toilet and smelled something was burning, and the living room was smoky. I guessed I know what that man was shouting about. I ran to the room and woke Joseph up, asked him to go out and check whether it was fire out there. Then he went out to check.

While waiting for him, the burning smell was getting stronger. Close my room where Fidel was sleeping there so that the smoke won’t go in to the room. I went out from the house and looked downstairs, the smoke was too thick, and I couldn’t see anything.

I ran back to the house and made a call to a fire department but somebody has made a call earlier than me. I became panic and keep thinking what I should take. Important documents, birth certificates, laptops? I grabbed a bag and put few important folders in.

Joseph came back and asked us to go out from our apartment.

I asked him, “Need to bring these (pointing the bag which I packed)? Laptop? Anything?”

“No, no… Just go down. I didn’t see the fire, only a thick smoke. It won’t burn the whole apartment. We need to go down, because it’s not good to smell the smoke.”

I took a face towel and made it wet to cover Fidel’s face. Joseph carried Fidel and covered his face. Thought that it’s not so serious, we got down using the lift which actually we were not supposed to use the lift when got fire. Anyhow many people were inside the lift so we just follow. We saved energy instead of walk 12 floors down (because we leave at 12th floor).

When we reached ground floor, there were so many people with their pajamas, a very old woman sat on the floor while her daughter keep patting her shoulder, I guess this woman was shocked.

Joseph passed Fidel to me, he slept on my shoulder without bother anything.

There was 1 old couple injured. Their unit at 5th floor was fired. They couldn’t go out from the door while the smoke is too thick, they couldn’t breathe. The husband broke the room window, get out from the window and climb to the next neighbor balcony. The husband injured his hands and his wife was rescued and ran her to the hospital by the ambulance as she breathed too much smoke.

After waiting an hour at the ground floor and the fire brigade had checked that it’s safe, then we can get back to our apartment again. It’s almost 2a.m. Our house still got the burning smell. We opened all the windows and doors let the fresh air come in. Put Fidel on his bed, he didn’t wake up at all. How lucky he was…. Sleep with no worry, and know nothing.

I felt hungry… maybe because carried 8kg Fidel and stood for an hour. I cooked instant noodle for us. I thought we were ready to have a good rest until I went to wash my feet, I found that my feet were so black! Just remember that our house was full of smoke and it sticks to the floor. Oh no… Need to mop the floor before sleep? Sigh…

Finally we can go to our bed on 3a.m. after cleaning the house.

“Bed, here I come”

“What.... 6.30?? So fast!” I felt my head just touched the pillow, and now need to wake up, prepare breakfast, feed Fidel, cook his porridge and prepare to go to church as I’m the pianist for this Sunday service.

Thank God that I still can concentrate in playing the piano.

After church, we went for lunch and I went home. Must! My eyes can’t open anymore. Unfortunately, Joseph needs to stay back for a meeting at church.

Fidel is Fully Recovered

Finally after 10days struggling with cough and cold, Fidel is fully recovered now. First 5 days when he was sick, I need to struggle with him many times in a day just to feed him the medicine. Hold him tight and use syringe pump the medicine into his mouth and he will cry very loud. One more thing that he didn't like to do was breath-in the gas/ventolin exohaler using a tool, called aero chamber. This one, I need to tight his whole body with a cloth/blanket. While breath-in, he struggled, screamed and cried. Sounds sadistic huh? No choice... For his own good. He cried loudly, I cried in my heart too.

We try to keep him familiar with the thing and the medicine by letting him play with those things and keep reminding him that it won't hurt him, and the medicine is sweet. Slowly he let us put the aero chamber and he behave very well. We almost couldn't believe how good Fidel is while taking the medicine. No struggle, no cry. Thank God, thank God! He answers our prayers.
One day when he woke up from his nap, I peeped from outside the room. He took the aero chamber and put on his face, pretended using it. I grab my camera and go in to the room, have few shots of him, and he ask me to do it for him. Oh dear... He is such a good boy.

Fidel is Having Cough Again

Fidel(13months) has a serious cough and flu again last Wednesday(5days ago) and fever for three days. It has been 6months since he got the last serious cough. He didn’t want to eat any solid food. We tried to pursuit him, did some “trick”, and end up only 1-2scoops went into his mouth. He doesn’t like formula milk and hardly drink water. It makes us worry.

Thank God that He still provides breastmilk for him until now. So, I just let him latch on me the whole night. The next day he still had no appetite. Whole day eats only 4-5scoops for five days and he lost 0.5kg. Within 5days he lost 5months weight that he had gained.

Normally he will come to us when we eat something. Just call his name and show him the food, he will come. But this time, he will just walk away and close his mouth tightly. Offer him his favorite biscuit, usually eat one piece within a minute, this time takes 20minutes and not even finish one piece. Sigh…

We pray and pray that God will heal him and the most important is he wants to eat. We try not to worry so much as we keep praying.

God slowly answer our prayer, although he didn’t want to eat, he still want to drink water. And this evening in front of him I pretended eating my food which was actually his porridge, he looked at me and moves his lips, and he said,”Mam… mam-mam…” Oh dear… Thank you Lord! God answer the prayers. He opens his mouth and eats. If I scoop the food too slow, he couldn’t wait and shouts, “Maaaaam….”

“OK, OK baby….”Look like his appetite is back. One bowl of rice he finished this evening.

Till now, he still has cough and runny nose. Beside few medicines that he takes, we do nebulizer to him too. Hope he will recover soon.

Chickenpox At Our Church

Two weeks ago, seven person from the church I attend were attacked by Varicella Zoster – chickenpox virus. It attacked all kind of age, from toddlers till the old one.

Chickenpox is contagious, meaning that someone who has it can easily spread it to someone else. Someone who has chickenpox is most contagious after 2-3weeks since he or she got it, when the scabs are about to fall off.

A person who has chickenpox can pass it to someone else by coughing or sneezing. When he or she coughs, sneezes, laughs, and even talks, tiny drops come out of the mouth and nose. These drops are full of the chickenpox virus.Before you know it, the chickenpox virus has infected someone new.
The good news is that chickenpox is a common illness for kids and most people get better by just resting like you do with a cold or the flu. And the really good news is that, thanks to the chickenpox vaccine, lots of kids don't get chickenpox at all.

Usually the vaccine is given at age 1. But you can get it when you're older too. Kids, who do get it, if they got the shot, often get less severe cases, which means they get better quicker.

Fidel just had the CP vaccine last Wednesday as he is one year-old now and going to face CP virus at anytime and anyplace.

Fidel's First Birthday

First of all, we want to give thanks our precious Lord Jesus for his guidance, protection and wisdom that we could have strength to raise Fidel. Time flies… From his first day arrived in this world, only know how to cry, drink milk and sleep until his first year, he learns a lot of things. Those are blessings to us. He brings laughter and joy to our family.

Last Saturday, we had a cell group gathering to celebrate Fidel and Marion birthday, as their date are the same, but they different nine years.
On Sunday, Joseph’s elder sister made a simple party for Fidel and invited families and relatives. I would like to say many many thanks to all of them for all their love, time, and presents. Thanks to other friends for their wishes and presents too.

Fail and Fail Again

I don’t know what make me crazy of baking cakes recently. One of the aunties from my church, willing to lend her oven to me as she seldom use it, in fact she used it once only. I’m like having a new oven.

I start to buy and collect the cakes ingredients. First time I used it to roast chicken as my cake ingredients have not completed yet. After few days later, here I come to do some “experiments”.

All the cake recipes I search from internet. The first cake I tried to make was basic cup cakes. The result was failed. It looks nice when baked time, but slowly it become darker, I think the temperature was too high and it shrinks badly after took it out from the oven. The second cake was brownies, I tried to make is 4times lesser than the original recipe. When the cake was baked, suddenly I shocked that I forgot one of the ingredients still in its original weight. Instead of 1/4tsp of baking powder, I put 1tsp, sigh… How careless I am. What happened next was after the cake getting cold, the centre went down very deeply. Hahaha…

My mother and sister are good in making pastries, but I never want to try before. For me it’s not easy and need to be very detail in measuring the ingredients. That’s why I failed two times.

Anyhow I’m not surrender yet. I am sure I will success one day.

Interesting Singaporean Movie-The Little Nyonya

It has been one month I didn’t update my blog. I was busy with a lot of things, the kindergarten concert preparation, doing some accounting and especially this one – watch series movie from youtube.

I was addicted with this movie. I just couldn’t stop watching it before I know the whole story. You must wonder what movie that I watched. The title is “The Little Nyonya”, Singaporean Movie. They took a Malaysian Chinese culture, which is called Peranakan and make it into an interesting movie.

After watch this movie, I understand and appreciate the history behind the culture. After two weeks watched the movie, finally I can have a good sleep and ready to update my blog again. He Won Again!

Two months ago (June 2009) I sent Fidel’s 7.5months photo to Parenthood Magazine to join the best smile photo competition from Mei Mei Babycare. I chose a photo which was taken after his bath (Mei 2009) when he laughed.

Last week I went to a magazine shop in Jusco, just to check what Parenthood Magazine contains about for August edition. Accidentally I saw Fidel’s photo. I was surprised, he won 3rd prize! Usually they will notify us through email; the notification came late this time. I didn’t expect that he will win, in fact I had forgotten about it.

Fidel's First Shoes

Last month we had a special guest visit from Jakarta. Her name is Fenny, one of my church friends in Jakarta. Before that she was in Singapore, and planned to come to Penang just to visit our beloved son. We were much honored.

She brought a lot of gifts for Fidel. Shoes were one of the gifts. This is Fidel’s first shoes! I put on the shoes to him quickly. At first Fidel cried and refused to wear. He felt threatened with the new thing on his feet. Suddenly he couldn’t stand with the shoes on him. Hahaha…

The next day, we tried again, and this time the shoes became his “friend”. He didn’t refuse and could stand with it.

I had a great time while Fenny was here; we spent most of the night to chit-chat, share about mother experience. I learned a lot from her; a good, wise and proud mother of pretty twin daughters and a talented son. Few dishes I learned from her while she cooked at our house. “Thanks for the great breakfast!”

Fidel was happy too, got aunty who likes to play, sing songs, and carry him while he bored.

New Words

Two weeks ago we were visited by four friends from Jakarta. They are Devi, Christina, Renna and Cecilia; very talented young musicians. They did a classical concert here in Penang. Many people loved their performance.

They stayed in our tiny apartment and we (Joseph, Fidel and I) had a great time with the joy and happiness that they brought. Fidel was very happy, because got many “Jie Jie”(sister) played with him.
I told Fidel many times that they are “jie jie” when they played together. One day in the car, he looked to the back where they sat and he said “ceh... ceh…” Everybody was shocked to hear Fidel call “ceh-ceh” instead of “jie jie”. His ability to vocalize is improving.

Second word that he learned recently was when he plays with my handphone and the light of the handphone was automatically off, I said “No more light…, no more…” and Fidel imitated me by saying, “mo-mo…mo-mo”. I was shocked again, he learn something very fast. He is 10.5months now.
Few moments that Fidel will say “mo-mo” and turn his wrist, when:
1. Each part of Fun Song Factory-children song program that he watches finish.
2. I switch off the laptop.

Fidel Misses Daddy

Joseph has not been around for 5days. Time flies… Tomorrow night he is coming back. Wow!

At first when I know that he would go to Japan for business trip, I asked him to stay at other place for 2days after he come back from Japan. Afraid he would bring the H1N1 virus home. But after few days he’s been away from home, Fidel and I miss him very much.

These few days, when I asked Fidel where daddy is, he would turn his head to the door. One more things that really tickled me and at the same time show how much Fidel miss daddy was when I show him Joseph’s photo, I asked him, “Do you miss daddy? Let me show you his photo. Sayang(love) daddy…. How to sayang?” and he did kiss the photo. When I said again, “Sayang, sayang…” he slowly stick his one side of his cheek to the photo.

I left the photo album with him, and I went off to the toilet. And again I saw the sweet sight, he draw his cheek close to the photo. Oh dear… this little baby really miss his daddy.

How could I don’t let them meet each other soon?
Come back soon dear, don’t bother about the virus.
Pray that God will protect and keep our family healthy.

"Bye bye Fidel"

Joseph is going for business trip to Tokyo again. Last year I was 7months pregnant when he left me for the Tokyo trip. Now Fidel is 9 months 3weeks.

Just now sent Joseph to airport, we didn’t go down, just dropped him there because it was heavy rain.

Before he went off he kissed Fidel, and he said “bye bye” to him, and suddenly Fidel felt sad, and started crying when the car door was closed and he walked away. I horn Joseph and he opened the door again to sooth and assure him that daddy won’t go too long, and then he closed the door. Again Fidel cried louder and whimpered. But I managed to calm him down by offer him a new toy. Luckily I bought this “magic” thing.

Just few weeks back, Fidel feels happy or has no feeling while mommy or daddy go out from the house. But now, this little baby finally could understand and feel the feeling of separation. He cried when daddy say “bye bye”. It means they have a very good father-baby bonding. I could see that Joseph is a favorite daddy and a hero to Fidel.

Tonight, Fidel sleeps with me. Hope he won’t wake up and ask for milk.

I Try Not To Say "NO"

Recently, Fidel can’t stay long in the playpen, rocking chair or baby cot. He will screaming or make the crying sound till we feel pity of him, and decide to take him out and play with him. He will just smile at me and crawl away as we put him on the floor. Then… his adventure is begun.

He crawls to all over places in the house. His favorite place is under the dining table. When we eat, Fidel crawls around the house and he will stop under the table. We must be aware before we move our legs or else he will get kick.

Fidel is a very curious baby. Everything in the box, plastic bag, he opens up and takes all out and leaves it. I always say “No”, “No”, and “No” when he touches something that he shouldn’t touch. Sometimes because afraid of dirty and dust, I do not let him touch. He touches this and that, I will say “No!” for so many times.

Fidel starts exploring his world now and I think I shouldn’t say “NO” every time for just a small matter. End up, I will just watch him when he plays, make sure he doesn’t put them in his mouth.

Fidel Won Prizes

Three months ago (March 2009), I participate in a few photo contest from Parenthood Magazine by sending Fidel photo. He won it, and was published in May 2009 magazine. It was “holiday outdoor” photo contest which sponsored by Fiffy products. He is one of the 6winners.

In June 2009, again he won a baby photo contest which sponsored by Pureen. This time he won the first prize. We were very surprised! Yay…! He got a RM300 Pureen Hamper. Thank you to Brother Vincent Leow, who managed to get the hamper in Kuala Lumpur, and Brother Moh Herng and Sister Phaik Sim, who brought it to Penang, and Sister Hock Kian, who delivered it to our house.

Fidel First Stand

Like usual, I put Fidel in the baby cot every time I want to take a bath. He will just play and talk inside there. Recently he tries to get up and stand with his knees while two hands pulling his body up. He is 9months 1week now.

“Fidel, you can stand!” Shouted me when I suddenly saw him standing inside the baby cot. I wanted to snap a picture but after few seconds he sat back again.

Again in the afternoon, when I played with him on the bed, he will just crawled to his baby coat, touch it, pat it, and he starts to climb again. This time my camera is ready to take a few shots so that I can prove it to my hubby.

Yesterday was my birthday. I’m grateful that God is so kind to me, I could experience my first time birthday with Fidel and my hubby.

"Happy Father's Day" to all daddies in the world!

Last month was my first Mother’s Day and today is Joseph first Father’s Day. Time flies that he can celebrate Father’s Day with 9months Fidel.

Joseph enjoys his fatherhood very much as Fidel is a very good and calm baby. Though he is getting more active and active but we still can cope with him. We trust that our Lord Jesus grants us wisdom, patient and love so that we know how to take care of our son.

Just now we and Wong’s Family had dinner at “Ko Fu Loft”, a quite new restaurant at Gurney Plaza. On this Father’s Day, they give us a free shoot of family photo. Not bad….

Instead of having a free shoot photo, we took another two photos, which charged us RM5.00 per photo. Here are the photos….

Must Check The Date of Expiry!

Today I bought a pack of formula milk for Fidel. Tomorrow morning we will leave our house quite early to the church, so I prepared his rice cereal into the plastic container.

I opened the box and when I took out the packing inside, suddenly my eyes gazed the date which was written there “USE BY 04/06/2009”. Oh dear! The milk is expired. It was really scared me when thinking of how if I didn’t see the date and let my baby consume the expired milk. Oh no, oh no! I hurried check all the rest of baby foods that I bought.

Normally, beside dairy product or something which can stand for few days, I rarely check the expiry date of the food that I buy. Next time, I will check all the date of expiry, no matter what. Must remember to check!

Thank God that He protects my baby. He opened my eyes to stare at the date.

Fidel Sleeps Through The Night

It has been three weeks since we train Fidel to sleep through the night. Fidel sleeps with daddy while I was sick; I sleep in another room.

I am salute to Joseph that he can train Fidel to sleep till morning without suck the milk anymore. But sometimes Fidel still wakes up once, cries 1-2minutes and back to sleep again. Two thumbs-up for my hubby!

My Sister's Birthday

My sister came from Jakarta few days ago. And she will stay here for about a month. What a great time to have her here.

Besides helping me do the chores, she serves us with various meals too. She likes to read recipe books, so I’ll just let her do whatever experiment she would like to do in the kitchen.

Train Fidel To Sleep Through The Night

Last week, I lied on the bed for three days. I had a bad flu-runny nose, fever, backache and headache. I really need my mother-in-law to take care of Fidel at daytime, and Joseph takes turn in the evening. I went to doctor and he suggested me to stop breastfeeding for 2-3days though he didn’t prescribe antibiotic for me. But anyhow I managed to breastfeed Fidel for 3-4times/day.

Usually I will feed my baby on the bed till him asleep and he will wake up and cry at least 2-3 times before he really got a deep sleep, again at 3-4am. Every time he must suck the breast milk only he will go back to sleep.

Since I was sick, Joseph thinks that it’s a best time to train him sleep through the night. Then, the training starts….

First night, after feed him to sleep (the last breast milk at night), I move to another room. Joseph sleeps with him. Like usual, he wakes up after 1hour, he cried but this time no more milk for him. Let him cry for half hour, and he go back to sleep.

Second night, he wakes up again at 1am, let him cry till he sleep. He woke up at 5am and tapped Joseph backside.

Third, fourth, till sixth day mostly he wakes up one time, and normally he sleeps again until 6am, and Joseph carries him to me, and I feed him.

Seventh day, he didn’t wake up at all from 10.30pm till 7.00am. We were surprised! Is it success? We are not sure about the answer. Joseph is sick now. I think I passed the virus to him. And Fidel will sleep with me again.

Thank God that Fidel is still fine; he is strong. I guess it because the antibody from the breast milk that he took while I was sick.

For all mothers who breastfeed your baby, when you are not feeling well, flu, fever, just continue the breastfeeding. Wear a face mask and feed your baby or you can pump the milk out. The breast milk will still contain antibody to prevent your baby from get sick.

Breastfeed For Health

Fidel is 8 months now, and I still breastfeed him, 3-4times/day.
From the newspaper I read last Sunday about breastfeeding; multiple studies have shown a reduced risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, type 2 diabetes, and postpartum depression in women who have breastfed their babies. The longer a woman breastfeeds, the lower her risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

Breastfeeding helps restore the uterus to its original size by inducing uterine contractions and decreasing postpartum blood loss after birth. The act of breastfeeding also provides an intimate, relaxing experience for mother and baby, helping them bond. Physical contact is important to newborns and can help them feel more secure, warm, and comforted.
Breastfeeding mothers also may have increased self-confidence and feelings of closeness to their infants.

Breast milk is always warm, ready for use, and in perfect proportion to infants’ needs: no bottles to wash or trash to discard. And because of the immune protections provided to infants, breastfed babies are healthier, saving on health care expenses and increasing productivity of parents who miss less work.

It is very important to do exclusive breastfeeding for six months and continued breastfeeding for the first year of life and beyond.

8 Month-Old Fidel Fell From Bed

Eight o’clock in the morning, I was washing the rice, preparing the porridge for Fidel. Suddenly I heard him cried. I hurried myself to the room; I was shocked when I didn’t see him on our bed. Oh no… He is on the floor! He fell down from the bed.

I quickly picked him up, hugged him, rubbed his head and calm him. He cried for few seconds. I checked his whole head, limbs, pressed his head, see whether got any pain reaction from him, and asked “Is it pain? Are you OK?” He smiled and laughed back to me. Oh dear, it’s really scared me.

Fidel usually doesn’t cry while he wakes up in the morning. Sometimes we do not know that he wakes up. Next time I need to be more careful, though I’ve blocked him with many pillows, because he can crawl very fast now.

Thank God for his protection.

Fidel New Hair Cut

Today we took Fidel to an Indian Barber shop for a haircut. Recently he sweats a lot, especially his head. He keeps scratching his head till he gets a rash.

The man placed a small stool on the normal chair. Fidel sat on the stool and I hold him. Fidel sat still, he didn’t struggle or cry. He enjoyed it. He was like wondering,” What is this man doing with my head?”

It took about 1-2minutes, for three ringgit only.

My First Mother's Day

Last year was my first time experienced mother’s day when Fidel still inside my womb. This year, it is my first time again to experience mother’s day with the “real” Fidel.

This morning when I woke up, I was like reminding myself, “Oh! I’m a mother now”. After 7.5 months I take care of Fidel, I realize that it is not easy to being a mother.

There were a group of children sang a song of mother’s day this morning in the church. They sang it in Mandarin; I was touched though I didn’t fully understand the meaning. I just prayed that God will strengthen me and help me to bear this special occupation which God had trusted the little Fidel to us. And I thank God for my lovely mommy too. She is the greatest one.

Fidel's Favorite Porridge

Since Fidel was 6 month old, I started give him porridge for his lunch and dinner. When he was 5.5months I gave him cereal twice a day. He doesn’t drink so much water, he doesn’t like drinking water. End up he got constipation. There was one day he tried to poopoo , already sat on the potty for 35minutes, till whole body sweating and crying, the stool still didn’t come out. The stool was too hard and he didn’t have strength to push it out. I took him to the hospital then.

The nurse helped to insert 5ml of Glycerin Enema into the rectum. This liquid treatment is adhered to clear the bowel, induce better functioning of the bowel, to cleanse and provide therapeutic benefits. After 1-2minutes, “all” came out. Wow!

OK… We go back to the porridge again. Doctor encouraged introducing more porridge and fruits/vegetable purees in his diet. These are rich in fibre and will help prevent constipation.

I cook porridge and add potato, carrot, and spinach/broccoli. I use slow cooker to cook the porridge. The spinach, I will put it in 20-30minutes before I get the porridge done. For the broccoli, 15minutes is enough. Overcooking vegetables may lose its nutrients and vitamins.

Fidel loves to eat the porridge. If we feed him too slow, he will complain and crying. Sometimes he will open his mouth big big while I just want to scoop it from the bowl. Must quick!

My Baby Had Pneumonia

It’s been a long time, I didn’t update my blog. I was busy with taking care of Fidel. We had hard weeks because our beloved baby fell sick.

It started with dry cough for few days and when it came to a cough with phlegm, I took him to the doctor.
After five days took the medicine, he didn’t recover. Doctor changed the medicine. The next day evening, I felt Fidel’s body a little bit warm. Fidel had fever for three days. I took him to the doctor again, and she said he had Pneumonia. It’s a lung infection because a lot of phlegm inside there and it cause fever.
Doctor asked us to do phlegm suction to Fidel as he was not able to make the phlegm out. We could not imagine 2 tiny tubes will go through his nose and mouth into his lung; sure he will feel painful and suffer. We don’t want our 6 month old Fidel to experience this thing, as he still taking the cough and runny nose medicine, plus nebulizer which we do at home every four hours (Thanks to Karen for lend me the nebulizer compressor)
Two days later we went to check again and the phlegm still remain the same. Next two days, also still the same. In one week, we went to doctor for four times. Finally doctor told us not to drag the time anymore, or it will cause lung damage as the phlegm stays too long in the lung, which is already 15days. When I heard that it can cause lung damage, it really broke my heart. With very heavy feeling I told doctor, “I’ll bring him two days later for suction if there is no progression.”

Within that week, came red spots on Fidel face, shoulders, and arms till his whole body. It was measles. Thank God it’s a fake one, and it was called Roseola. Doctor didn’t do any treatment on it, and it disappeared after three days.
Many of our church members in Penang, Jakarta, and many places, they prayed for Fidel. We really hope that through prayers and the medicine and the treatment which Fidel takes, he can recover soon.

The next day we heard him cough and cough. Two days later we hardly heard him cough. He is getting better and better day by day. Few days later we brought him to check again, and the doctor said,” I didn’t hear anymore phlegm.”

Thank God, he finally answered our prayers.
Dear all brothers and sisters in Christ, we would like to thank you very very much for remember us, especially Fidel in your prayers.

Fidel First Tooth

Yesterday when Joseph and I had our dinner at home, Fidel smiles to me, and I saw something white and shinny in his mouth. I wondered whether it’s a tooth. I quickly washed my hand, and put my finger in. “Yeah! Fidel got a tooth!” I shouted happily. We were so happy because this is our first experience that our first child, Fidel had his first tooth at his 6.5 months old.

From what I read, baby first teeth usually sprout when they’re between 4 and 7 months of age.Last week I just thought why Fidel first tooth didn’t show up. I forgot to check the gum as well. Since last week Fidel keeps making bubble sounds. I think now I know why he keeps doing it, because he doesn’t feel comfortable with “something” in his mouth and he tries to blow it out.

Wanted to take his first tooth picture, but he puts his tongue out every time I press down his chin.

I Took Fidel To The Kindergarten

For the first time I took Fidel, 5month-old baby to the kindergarten last Thursday. I’m sure you are wondering why this baby goes to the kindy on his early age.

Well… Of course not for his early education. After my long holiday, I start to teach in the kindergarten again. Usually my mother-in-law comes and takes care of Fidel for few hours when I am not around. That day, I forgot to call her to come earlier.

I couldn’t wait for her to come, or else the students will miss their singing class. So, I brought him to the kindergarten where I teach. I put him in his stroller and place it next to me. He really enjoy the singing time. He sat quietly, his eyes looked around the rooms. He didn’t make any noise or cry for one hour.

Thank you for being a good baby boy, dear… Mommy loves you so much.

Fidel's First Flight

First of all, I would like to wish all of you “Happy Chinese New Year”. Yesterday we celebrated first day of CNY. In the morning we had a special meeting at church and met many friends from outstation back for this special day. We visited few relatives too.

Fidel is 18weekold

In the evening, Fidel, my sister, and I took flight to Jakarta. It was Fidel’s first time take flight. Long time before this journey, I worried of Fidel, do not know whether he can stand of two and a half hours journey plus the air pressure along the journey.

There is a tip from Fidel’s doctor. She encourage during take offs and landing to give a bottle or pacifier to the baby to help alleviate the air pressure.

Thank God it works! Oh… I’m so happy. When take off, I let him drink the milk. When he gets bored I face him to the back, see the environment and the people there, this is Fidel’s hobby. After he tired, let him drinks the milk again and he falls asleep. He didn’t wake up till the next morning. I guess he was very tired of CNY day.

Fidel Sleeps Better On The Chair

Fidel has a better sleep when we place him on his chair. Since he was 7 week-old, he always gets up at 5 o’clock in the morning for milk and he couldn’t get back to sleep. He will struggle and scratch his face and ears. I brought him to living room and put him on his chair, and he won’t move anymore, he fall asleep very fast. After he falls asleep, I will leave him there, and I go back to my room to sleep again.

We guess there are two possibilities why he sleeps better on that chair. First, because of the curve shape, he feels as if got somebody carry him. Second, maybe he can breathe better in that position.

There was one day I fell sick. I slept in the other room, Fidel slept with Joseph. The same thing happened again, Fidel kept struggling, and Joseph put his half body on our pillow, let him sleep like at the photo below. He could sleep few hours more. What a funny baby!

Fidel's Bathing Time

Talking about baby’s bath, what first come to my mind when I was pregnant is “Would I able to bath him smoothly?” I saw Youtube videos about bathing a baby for so many times since I was pregnant. Because I will take care the baby by myself. From the video, it looks very easy. I guess I have confidence to bath my baby.

First Fidel’s bath was done by my sister-in-law. She helped me as I did my confinement in Chinese tradition – cannot touch the water to avoid wind. Fidel cried on his half way bath time.
The second day, I couldn’t find anybody to help me in bathing the baby, so I decided to bath him by myself. What happen was he cried when I just started to wash his hair. Oh! I became nervous and after I wash his hair, I just deep his body awhile and hurry up took him out. While putting on his clothes, he still keeps crying. After finish, my whole body and face were sweating. In fact, the real and the one in the video were totally different, especially for my first experience. No photo for this, because Joseph and I were busy handling the baby.

The third day, the confinement food caterer helped me to bath the baby. She has a lot of experience. Fidel seldom cry when the aunty baths him every day. Every time she baths Fidel, I will look at her how she does it, and take some pictures.

After full month, I started to bath Fidel by myself. What amaze me was… He didn’t cry! Wow! Thank God that Fidel is a baby who likes bath very much. So… I also very enjoy the moment I bath my baby. He will smile and stare at me in the bath tub if I sing a song.

Hand-Eye Coordination

When Fidel was in his 13week-old, he kept looking at his hands, moves it up and down. He is developing his hand-eye coordination. Soon he started grasp the blanket or cloth, even his bib, he kept pulling it.

Just one day before New Year (15week-old), he started looking at his leg, and trying hard to reach and hold his leg. When he bath, I put him in sitting position, and he will stare at his legs in the water, and moves his toes.

It’s lovely to see how he grows day by day.

It has been quite some time I didn't update my blog. From middle of December until Christmas was a busy period for my husband and I. Plus having my little dear baby, it's not easy to go for blogging. I just had enough time to check my emails.

I just fed my baby 2hours ago and I tried go back to sleep. But after 1.5hour on the bed, I still couldn't sleep. I decided to check my mail and would like to wish all of you "Blessed New Year 2009".

Like what you see in the photo, these four boys went out together to Queensbay Mall with their moms. The three big boys had fun, my baby although couldn’t walk yet, but he enjoyed too. He enjoyed the aircond and slept when we just arrived there.

He was the best boy, because while all moms were busy with their boys, my son had a deep sleep after he drank 4oz milk. So… I was a free mom.

As I’m writing this post and put the photos in my blog, Jasmine had delivered the baby three weeks ago. Her baby is a girl, Faith Wong is her name. Congratulation Jasmine!

Vaccine for Fidel

Yesterday we took Fidel to the clinic to have the hepatitis B, DPT, Polio, Hib vaccine. He cried so loud for few seconds. We quickly gave him milk and he forgot the pain.

After gave him a vaccine he slept for a whole day.

Next year, Fidel and I will go back to Jakarta and visit my parents. So, we went to the immigration and make a passport for him. The process needs 3-4hours to get it done. In the between we went to have a tea time. Fidel woke up for a while. You see the photos below here.

Yesterday was Fidel’s first time sit in the car seat with daddy as a driver. While driving or stop at the traffic light, daddy can see and talk to Fidel. They both enjoy the journey very much. I was happy that I didn’t need to carry him in my arm, because his weight is 4.9Kgs. Heavy la…
Anyhow, thank God that means he grows well.

After we reached home, Fidel’s body started getting warm, and he had fever for the whole night until next afternoon. He woke up every 1hour and cried. I almost became a panda, because didn’t have enough sleep. We were so worry. Thank to my mother-in-law, she came in the afternoon and took care of him, and I can take a nap.

Fidel gives his smile and starts to communicate with his language, and we know he is fine now.

Fidel Smiles

Within Fidel’s first month, we noticed that Fidel seldom smile. We hardly made him smile. He smiles only while he sleeps as he has drunk the milk.

Last week, he was 5 weeks old; we could see Fidel smiles to us while we talk to him. His smile is very sweet. Sometime he chuckles too.

Base on research, when the baby at his 6weeks, half of them can recognize their parents, they are so delighted that they welcome Mom or Dad with an excited, gurgly grin. This is one of the first signs that the baby is developing an ability to socialize. In fact, it’s called a “social smile".

We love to talk to him. Love to see his smile.

His Sleeping Time Totally Change

What a tiring day!
Before my baby one month old, he woke up every 3-4hours and opened his eyes, played for half hour. After he is one month old, especially last night, he woke up every one hour. My head just hit the pillow and I need to wake up and feed him again and again. I thought this morning he would be better, but it became worse. His sleeping time totally change. He opens his eyes for 3-4hours and sleep for half hour only.

My mother in law came and tried to make him sleep in her arm. But after one hour, she still couldn’t make it. He keeps looking around, opens his eyes so big and doesn’t even blink his eyes. I think he has a better vision now.

As I’m typing this post, he has been sleeping for one hour (one hour before midnight). Hope he will sleep longer.

Sweet dream little baby….

My Husband's New Hobby

Since Fidel was born, my husband has a new hobby. Like what you see in the photos. Yes, he likes to stare at Fidel. He stares at the baby until he falls asleep, or when he does his things, he will pull the baby cot close to him; just to feel that the baby is with him.

When Fidel sleeps, he makes hundred of expressions. He makes us chuckle. Thank God for the joy we feel everyday.

Shepherding a Child's Heart Through Proverbs (Part 3)

"My son, if sinners entice you, do not give in to them.

do not set foot on their paths" (Proverbs 1:10;15)

Son, learn to say 'No' to sin.
Sinful way may seems attractive, interesting and rewarding at the beginning, but eventually it leads to bankruptcy of life.
What is sinful way?
Sinful way is the way that bypass the law of God written in the Bible and in your heart.
Know the law and the will of God, and walk in it.
This is called Wisdom; and this is the reason why 'the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom'.

God set boundaries according to His Holiness, for your own good.
"For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them." (Proverbs 1:32).
Just as a car running on the highway without boundaries will not go far, so does a man who says 'yes' to every enticement in life will come to a dead end very soon.

With God as your point of reference in life, you will have wisdom to know when and what you need to say 'No'. And God promised that "whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm" (Proverbs 1:33).

Fidel Is One Month Old

Time flies very fast. Fidel is one month old now. Yesterday, we celebrated his full month at GNBC (Good News Baptist Church) as his daddy preached there too. There were Angkoo Kuih, Red Eggs and Glutinous Rice. We would like to thank many friends who had helped in such perfect preparation of food.

It was the first day we took Fidel out for 5hours. The Sunday service is started at 10.00am, I bathed Fidel at 7.30am, and then feed him, and he slept again. We went out at 9.40; I carried him, my husband and my sister hands full with his thing such as baby carried, baby’s bag, and bible. Wow… we were busy with all his stuff. It’s not easy to take baby away from house.

We reached church, and he was still sleeping, even during singing time. When his daddy preached half way, Fidel was hungry, and when he started cry. The breast milk was ready in the milk bottle, when he cried, I just inserted it to his mouth, and he won’t make any noise.

There was a blessing prayer lead by one of the sisters for three of us. After the service finished, Fidel was surrounded with many people. He didn’t cry because he was in a deep sleep. Oh… Thank God that everything went fine yesterday.
